If you are a French resident, royalties are subject to compulsory Social Security contributions. These allow creators to build up rights to the Social Security system (health insurance, retirement, training, etc.).

Sacem is legally obliged to deduct these contributions from each distribution. They appear on your account statement and are then paid to Urssaf.

In order for your contributions to generate Social Security rights, Urssaf must have your Social Security number. You must therefore provide it to Sacem, which will pass it on to Urssaf.

  • You are a French national residing abroad: we recommend that you enter your Social Security number if you know it.
  • You are a foreign national residing in France: if you do not have a Social Security number, we invite you to contact the National health insurance at +33 1 84 90 36 46 (or 3646 from France) to obtain this number and to review your situation and the social rights you can benefit.

Where should you enter your Social Security number?

What happens if you don't fill in your Social Security number?

You will not be properly identified. Social Security contributions will continue to be deducted from your royalties but they will not be linked to your account and will not generate any rights for you.

In addition, if you have income from different sources (salaries, other royalties, etc.), these contributions cannot be reconciled: the cap on your contributions cannot be applied and you risk over-contributing.

DON'T MISS OUT ON YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY RIGHTS, ENTER YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER IN YOUR MEMBER ACCOUNT.
