SACEM HONORS FILM COMPOSERS AT CANNES FESTIVAL!

In its role as an institutional partner of the Cannes Film Festival and the voice of creators of music for the moving image, Sacem set up a programme entirely dedicated to music composers at the heart of the world's biggest film festival, with one objective in mind: to showcase their talent and restore their rightful place at the heart of the festival.

Once again this year, Sacem, through its CEO Cécile Rap-Veber, asked Thierry Frémaux when an award for the best original music would finally be included in Cannes. Sacem will continue to fight for the inclusion of this distinction, a just and deserved recognition of composers’ valuable work.

A key moment in Sacem’s programme occurred when film score composers climbed the steps at Cannes, surrounding Howard Shore, who was honored this year by The Music Lesson, and Irène Drésel, winner of the 2023 César for best original music. It was a powerful and meaningful image that reminded us of the key role composers play in all cinematographic works.

A MEMORABLE MASTERCLASS WITH HOWARD SHORE

Another must-see event was the Music Lesson, a masterclass given by the talented Howard Shore, with a special appearance from Martin Scorsese. In front of a packed house, Scorsese and the composer of the soundtracks to Lord of the Rings, The Wolf of Wall Street and Silence of the Lambs shared with a captivated audience the key moments of Shore’s career and some of the behind-the-scenes aspects of his creative work.

'SACEM SUNSET LIVE' SESSIONS TO CELEBRATE THE MARRIAGE OF MUSIC AND CINEMA.

Without music, Cannes wouldn't be the biggest and most glamorous festival in the world: you can hear it everywhere, in the streets, on the red carpet, in all the films and in the concerts.

Every evening from May 17 to 23, at Plage 3.14, in partnership with Nomade, Léonie Pernet, Madjo, Flavien Berger, Irène Dresel, Bachar Mar-Khalifé, Olivia Merilahti and Thomas de Pourquery took us on a journey through their universe and thrilled the many professionals who came to listen to them.

And throughout the Festival, the Sacem Garden, a place 100% dedicated to film music, hosted interviews and meetings for composers, Sacem teams and festival-goers.

Sacem would also like to thank all its partners for contributing to the success of this year's #Cannes2023!
