SACEM announces partnership with PEN Music Group and Mother’s Finest Songs, a division of Mothership Music Publishing

SACEM, the leading international collective management organization, has agreed a new partnership with US independent music publisher PEN Music Group, in a multi-territory mandate for digital licensing for one of its most significant catalogues.

SACEM will manage the collection and distribution of royalties for the online repertoire of the ‘Mother’s Finest Songs’ catalogue, recently acquired by Mothership Music Publishing and administered worldwide by PEN. The catalogue of over 350 songs, all co-written by Ivor Novello Award winner Pam Sheyne, includes hits such as Genie in a Bottle originally released by Christina Aguilera.

This new agreement reinforces SACEM’s representation of major American players in Europe, and further afield, for their digital rights, following its mandates with UMPI, Wixen Music, Warner/Chappell, Canadian PRO SOCAN and IMPEL.

Increasing numbers of independent publishers have been choosing SACEM’s expertise in digital licensing and technology to licence their online rights on a multi-territorial basis.

SACEM announced a partnership with IMPEL in April and recently signed an agreement with The Music Goes Round Publishing. Both agreements are coming into force this month and cover up to 130 territories, with the repertoires being included in all SACEM’s current and future licensing deals with all multi territorial DSPs.

Jean-Noël Tronc, CEO of SACEM, commented: “We are delighted to be partnering with PEN and Mother’s Finest Songs to support the diversity of independent publishing, following our recent agreements with IMPEL and The Music Goes Round.
“SACEM has a strong commitment to representing all genres of music by providing all our partners with industry-leading technology to maximize value and opportunities and support the fair remuneration of artists and creators worldwide.”

Michael Eames, PEN Music Group’s President, said: “We look forward to working closely with SACEM to ensure that ‘Mother’s Finest Songs’ and Pam Sheyne’s worldwide online royalties are fairly remunerated in an efficient and transparent way. Their technology is very impressive as is their dedication to maximizing the worldwide value of rightsholders’ online repertoire.”

Hein van der Ree, Partner at Mothership Music Publishing, commented: “We are impressed by SACEM’s strong track record in international collection and distribution of royalties and by the performance of its URights technology. The enthusiasm of SACEM’s team combined with their digital expertise convinced us that they are the right partner for the online administration of Mother’s Finest Songs.”
