Registering works online

December 2020

Every year, authors, composers and publishers register nearly 256,000 new works published or unpublished in all genres (music, text and audio-visual). Today, 88% of unpublished or provisional works are declared online. They account for an average of 11,000 works registered in our databases per month.

Faster, with reduced processing costs

Filing a report or a registration in paper format takes between two and three weeks: handling the paper, entering the information into Sacem's documentation database ... and incurs a storage cost for the paper archives.

Works registered online are automatically recorded on the basis of the information entered and can be accessed more quickly in your catalogue.

The delay in registering documentation has an immediate impact on the distribution of royalties. Any registered work can be identified in the broadcast setlists and thus be distributed as quickly as possible.

Coming soon for all works

The majority of works (songs, instrumentals, texts, provisional works...) can already be registered online.

Given that 90% of unpublished or provisional works are already declared online, in the interests of economy and the environment, we have decided to stop using paper as of March 1, 2021.

For certain categories of works*, IT developments have not yet made the service usable by everyone. During this transitional phase, paper declaration forms will continue to be necessary.

* Dubbing or subtitling texts, music for films, series, advertising, audiovisual production, arrangement, adaptation, works with an author and/or composer in the public domain, symphonic music, musical storytelling, parody, works over 15 minutes in length.
